It's almost here, in fact, the big day is closer than we had thought. Up until yesterday, we thought school started on Thursday, but surprise, surprise - it starts Wednesday! So, we're down to two days of summer break...
We had our backyard, back-to-school swim party yesterday. Everyone seemed to have a great time despite the excessive heat. The women all stayed in the house and we sent the men out to watch the kids swim - it all worked out quite nicely for us females :) The kids swam, ate and all seemed happy to see each other. We didn't know some of the kids and their parents so it was nice to meet them. It's very interesting to watch other parents with their kids - it makes you think about your own attitudes and rules when you see others in action. I've totally ruled out ever inviting one family back over again. The parents let their kids run wild, talked about them being overweight, but then let them drink a whole 2 liter of soda and handfuls of candy (we had plenty of juice for the kids, which all of the others were fine with.) The kids left the door open every time they came in and out and so did the parents. Not the kind of people you really want to "get to know" - I think we all know enough about them already a) they were probably raised in a barn b) they don't respect others c) they are passing these qualities on to the next generation.
Everyone else was great - helpful and enjoyable and it was a pleasure to have them over.
Last night as we fell into bed, we decided that our pre-baby party days are over, - that was the last hoorah before Ellee Sophia (the baby) makes her entrance, but it was a nice way to go out!
